Yeah if you do em straight then you eliminate the slack. Personally i don't see the big deal with a bit of slack anyway seeing as the load is going to push against it anyway.
THe key thing with the bend in the standard and SWB setup is that you get a better angle to pull the cable across the fus which is i guess why Chris done it that way in the first place, I would like to take credit for working this out but it was actually something which the gnetleman at SWB explained to me.
