Well I've bought pleanty of items on ebay and you simply have to be careful and read. if the seller owns a store this also helps. as was the one i posted. and in california.

but i simply have to disagree that if you dont have alot of money you shouldnt try to start flying. i think its something everyone can enjoy. its not a cheap hobby, but i dont think you need to be rich to enjoy it.
