Someone at the field told me that the high end needs to be adjusted before the low end. Is this true? To me that doesnt make sense.. If the low end runs like crap, it may not even transition into the high end before dying..
Yes, it's true that you should get the high end set first. When the engine is running at higher speeds, the idle mixture screw has no effect. At low speeds, the idle mixture screw partially closes the spray outlet that's being metered by the high speed mixture. In theory, a change to the high speed could require a change to the low speed. However, since the high speed changes are usually very small, the low speed usually does not need to be changed once you get it right. To fix the problem of transitioning to high speed when the idle is not set right, run the engine up with the glow ignitor attached and then remove it. Note, get behind the plane when doing this and any engine adjustments.
