I hate to break in here, but, if this the first time you have flown a remote controlled plane, you are starting with the wrong plane! Most will tell you that. The P-51 is very difficult to fly. As Glacier Girl said, this plane has to be flown FAST to stay up. It tip stalls very easily( drops one wing and then spirals to the ground).
I know you have spent a lot of money, but, I would suggest one more purchase to get a slower plane. The stuff you have should fly the GWS Slow Stick and it is very easy to fly and will get you the practice for the P-51. You will need a gearbox for the motor if it did not come with one.
You do what you want, it's just a suggestion from me. I wouldn't dare tell you what you can fly!
