Every one says dont do it but they havent given a "why"
Here's the "why":
Good answer. There's a good discussion in one of the articles at
www.rcbatteryclinic.com that discusses the fact that you can use almost ANY battery charger to charge almost any rechargable battery, but that doesn't mean you'd want to do it. There's a high chance that you could be radically shortening the life of your rechargable battery. And why do it. Old computer power supplys can be purchased at used computer stores for about $8. And if you mope and cry poor, they might even give you one free. The $8 gets you one that's for sure working properly. Between charging batteries and repairing my computers I bought 3 at that price in the last couple of months. They have tons of them. Just be sure the one you get is working properly. That's explained in the conversion articles. Basically if its not working perfectly either the fan won't work or the output won't even be close to 12v so its not hard to tell.
Again see
All Forums >> Electric Aircraft Universe >> Electric General Discussion >> converting computer powersully into something to use with my triton
another thread in this forum for how to convert a computer power supply. I also referenced the
www.rcbatteryclinic.com there.
And don't it tick you off that for $100 a triton, as nice as it is, can only charge one battery at a time? That's one reason I'll never buy one.
