Bme 50
Having been into the gas powered pattern model design trial since--August - I have found a few thing s worth thinking about -
This is based on hands on flying and as of today - a LOT of it -using a 40 REZDZ and a tuned setup-
First off- the low sound level is possible - but you need more pitch - I really don't expect to see the best results on 10" pitch- the reason why is that at lower revs -you need more pitch.
A super duper low engine weight is nice -but not all that important-- any competent builder can hit 11 lbs with any decent 40 --no secret tricks needed .
The models do fly different as compared with the existing 9-10-11 lb 1.4 powered models - the power - raw thrust available can be easily overused -and flying gets jerky -not the fluid flight as seen for top drawer FAI.
The new series of 50 engines on the market should easily be capable of working for the present FAI schedules.
Here is the BUT!
I really think, that FAI has a chance of makeing a change to a slightly bigger /heavier model-so I am not doing anything more with my current project except for using it to work out the new IMAC Unlimited pattern - It is great for that -
I hate doing up a design -then having the rules change - FAI votes in March -on new rules for the next cycle -
some countries are already proposing increased weight limits for their own use .
And why not - as far as I can see - the use of a modern 40-50 cc gasser has it all over any overpriced /expensive fuel glow engine now being used - I have used both and I would not go back to the others -which were really not a problem for me - just that I think their time came -and has gone -RIP
