Stepped hulls are also unstable when a cross wind of 8-10 MPH hits them. I've flipped my Kyosho Airsteak 500 a coulpe of times this way. Foutunately, I've managed to bring it back to shore once .... "up-side-down" using the prop to push the boat back to shore.
True, to a point; the Airstreak has a much bigger hull than the competition hulls we run (MHZ (Thick) Flash) and is therefore relative lighter, and gives the wind more chance...
I must say the short of a gale, no wind can flip my boat, mostly it's a combination of hitting a wave at the wrong angle, cornering at full speed that flips it, luckily they all have a floodchamber, so it self-rights.
