In RC cars, the bandwagon is a good thing. When you break something your lhs will be more likely to stock it, rather than you having to wait for an order to come in.
You also have a greater pool of common problem knowledge. "oh ya, mine did that too, just do this..." kind of thing.

Don't avoid the popular trucks, they are popular for a reason, and their popularity is an advantage. If you want to stand out, get an airbrush and start painting custom bodies.
