Default RE: What is a "DeadStick"?

Two phrases that scare newbies: Crash Course and Dead Stick!

I had my first dead stick last weekend - ran out of fuel. I panicked!!! But my instructor calmly told me, "Fly it... just fly it." That was cool! If loitered around the end of the runway bleeding off altitude while maintaining airspeed so as not to stall, all the while shouting my intentions. Since I am a newbie when I got close my instructor landed. I think this is something that every newbie should experience and practice. If nothing else, just to know how to react. Of course be high enough so when it happens you have the time to react properly.

I find the odd unexpected Dead Stick fun... When I'm flying my trainer...

It makes landing much more exciting...

Although you want a few under your belt before you go looking for them...
