Yes, deadsticks to tend to scare new flyers. When I'm training a student I make sure that they have several deadstick landings before they solo. They should be part of training for a new student. The biggest thing to remember about a deadstick is to not stall the plane. Just leave it a little bit nose down to keep some airspeed.
What's funny is that a lot of times people will make deadstick landings that look 100% better than powered landings. I guess it's because they know that they're committed and can't go around!!
