Default RE: ZDZ 80 RV Single

This engine really needs about 5 gallons through it before it comes alive. ZDZ actually recommends keeping the throttle below full throttle until the engine has 3 hours on it. That is difficult!

Ours (the older one has 20 gallons, the newer one probably has 7) put out around 6400-6700 on the square tip Bambula 26x10. 4300' elevation, with a KS 1030 copy header and cannister. The newer engine just keeps getting better. We basically lean them out progressively over time until they start to sag in vertical uplines, then richen just a touch and put more fuel through it.

My brother and father each have planes with the DA 100 on mufflers and the ZDZ is within 150 - 250 rpm on the same prop. Vibration levels are very similar (except the single really shakes in the 2500-3500 range), the twin probably accelerates faster.

Of course the ZDZ on a cannister is significantly quieter. I sometimes need to power up and fly closer as I can't hear the engine. I ran out of fuel once on the Giles and just about lost it since I thought it was still running. Luckily it was pointed at the runway and high enough.

Good luck. Enjoy the engine, and report back after a few more gallons...
