Softer gear absorbs rather than bounces. You want some give without springiness. If the wheels actually leave the ground, it is usually due to the gear being too stiff. If the plane bounces along with the wheels remaining on the ground, it is from springy gear and/or wheels.

You can see how the TT .07 performed in the video - not a real powerhouse. I've since replaced it with a Norvel .074 which has given a huge increase in power.
