When I have ran into the problem with the vent for the pump in the carb I drilled out the hole and silver soldered a short piece of brass tubing and connected a piece of large fuel tubing and roughted it to a neutrol pressure spot in the fuse. Also might want to use a vilocity stack to keep a positive pressure at the carb.
