We were all noobs, no reason to be tough on you. Something called a stuffing tube is used to hold the drive shaft. The tube either goes through the bottom of the boat (for catamarans, hydros, and submerged prop monos) or the transom (for surface drive monos). It would be good to know what kind of boat, size, etc you're building to help with more information.
