Getting into this hobby involves risk but what a thrill it is to take a bunch of parts and make it fly.

All RC Airplanes have the same end. It's a matter of when not if. If it isn't pilot error then it is a mechanical problem. So you have to be willing to take the risk to get the thrill.

The first thing you should do is find a club near you and talk to the members. They won't lead you astray. They will also provide an instructor to help you get in the air without mishap.
