10 to 12 inches is a good length. it sounds like ur lowspeed needle is to rich. will it idle with out any throttle? cuz what happens is if the low speed is to rich the fuel will build up in the engine if it idles for a while. u can blip the throttle when its upside down to keep the fuel from building up. and try to lean ur low speed needle a lil bit see if that helps.
