It's easier to pull the engine - but you'll have to pull something to replace it.

I agree about the 2 speed. I don't think they are really needed for the MT2, but allot of people want to put one on. I would try, as you suggested, getting the most out of the engine before trying more gears. I have a THS Exaust on mine and it is well worth the money. On the header I took time with a dremell to match the header to the port to reduce resistance. The stock composite one is not all that good.
