RE: VMAR Improving?
Vmar has some very good looking designs, and have a nice full lineup of Planes. To their credit, they offer alot of Planes, and are very creative. The problem is that they take their nice designs and try to build them as cheap as possible. I have the Vmar Aero Subaru, which is a great looking design. The problem is that the quality was low. I don't know why Vmar don't get out of the market of trying to be the cheapest, and start putting some quallity into their designs. I would easily have paid another $50 for the Subaru if the hardware was all top notch stuff and the Plane had been assembled straight, used CA, and epoxy, and contest grade balsa. Vmar has the right designs, and are very creative, but quality is where they suffer. If I was at the head of Vmar, I would drop the Vmar name, and come up with a new name. I would then take the great designs done formarly under the Vmar name, and start building high quality Aircraft using Name Brand Hardware, High Grade Balsa, and have them built to the strictest quality control standard. Sure the price will go up, and this new Name will not be the cheapest around, but they will begin to build a reputation as a great ARF Manufacturer/Distributor, and with Creative Designs like that of the Subaru they will become giants in the industry, and liked by all that do business with them. Even some simple changes in the Vmar line would be an improvement, and it seems they are at least straying away from using wood that is something other than balsa. They could also make their Cowls a little stronger, include Dubro Tires instead of the "out of round" things they currently supply. Supply Hardware that is usable or just leave it out, and have the customer buy their own. Steps could be taken to give people less reason to complain.
