RE: Delta Vortex
Dave,
You'll love the Delta Fighter 90. I've had two and they're the most fun of anything I've flown in the last five years. I'm using a OS91FX with a 13x7, and waiting on a 12x10 from Tower. It's faster than most planes at my field of about 150 members. Definately one that causes people to stop and watch. Landings really make one look better than they are. Very graceful, nose high, slow, precice.
The other post warning of weak firewall is spot on. It must be strengthned or you'll end up tail heavy as the engine departs.
I had to add 6 ounces of weitht to the tail, but my 5-cell battery was just right in the very back center of the plane. Looking at my first (crashed) plane, I found a pocket that would hold the battery with just a little bowing up of the balsa. Remove the monocote bottom rear center and you'll find it. Just ahead of the trailing edge.
Also watch out for the nose gear strut making a hole in the fuel line. They want to occuply the same space. Careful placement cures the problem.
Hobby People has this ARF on sale for $160, so I put in an order for another one.
I'd like to use a Webra Speed 120, but don't know if it would fit. What do you think?
Another tip: Beware of props longer than 13 inches. They will quickly be missing their tips. That's one reason I'm trying a 12x10.
Another tip: Heat and twist your main landing gear 180 deg. so the axels point OUT, not inward. This widens the stance and gives much more stability on the ground. You WILL taxi tip all the time otherwise and the prob goes every time. Heat just enough to allow the twist. No more or the temper will go away.
Let us hear from you about how it goes.
