CKrehbiel - i agree with everyone here on the decathalon not being a good trainer. but you mentioned "to fly on this plane with somebody else teaching me and taking control before I screw up". is completely possible with a trainer cord. it is also possible without one but i really wouldn't suggest it (unless you and the instructor are intimate and he/she can cuddle up behind you and put his/her hands on yours). i say invest in a trainer cord and you'll be much safer.

i've seen people give the the controls over to a begineer and stand to one side, ready to grab the controller at any sign of danger. works ok for the most part... but when it doesn't turn out ok, it's usually devastating.

ps. on that cuddling note, imagine what cr@p i got when a news article in hong kong reported that RC flying is a great place for a romantic date, or to meet women and potentially cop a feel. i nearly choked!!!
