Default pipe for 18cv-rx and glitching

i have an 18cv-rx in my rc10gt that i just broke in. first off, is the stock ae pipe big enough for the 18? and second, after switching from the 12cv-rx (which is what was in my truck) i noticed it glitching at mid to high speeds. i have the pullstart flywheel on which worked fine for the 12, and i haven't changed anything else on the truck. i had to adjust the linkage to open the larger carb all the way (rotary style, for off-road) but other than that, everything is the same as i had it before. i had a glitching problem before, but it was due to the non-pullstart flywheel i had on. once i changed to the correct pullstart type it was fine. i'd be grateful for any help.
ps- i did have to put 2 very thin spacers on the shaft before the collet because the flywheel was touching the carb. this got the flywheel just far enough away to run without touching. the spur still lines up with the clutchbell fine so i didn't think the spacers would be a problem. if they ARE a problem then i don't know why they say the 18cv-rX is a drop-in for the rc10gt.
pps- i don't think the linkage or any "metal on metal" contact is causing the glitching. like i said it was fine with the 12 and i didn't change anything. and it's only when the rpms get up there.
thanx for any help.
