I believe removing the anodizing weakens the aluminum. I'm not an expert but I believe there was a discussion on this about a year ago.

Anodizing only add's to the corrosion resistance of the metal...it doesn't make it any stronger or weaker for that matter....anodizing is basically protecting the metal a little more. And there is no such way of making metal stronger by anodizing it either....it's fine to remove it..worst can happen is it'll corrode faster.
