....I just measured a few receivers and they range from 39 inches to 42 inches measured from the edge of the case......
Add on the lost length in the strain relief knot and the extra squiggle on the inside of the case and it sure sounds like it's close to your numbers. It also sounds like they don't bother cutting the antenna that close to a perfect 1/4 wave.
