Default RE: aussie dieselfuel problems

Tom,

Thanks for the kind words. But you know, it was you and also Raj from Singapore that dragged me kicking and screaming into the fragrant world of diesel combustion. All those throttles I installed on them infernal, glowless things you two kept sending me always had me wondering. What DO these guys see in these strange and scary lumps of metal? Well, now I know and for the most part, my flying has been exclusively diesel and most of these have been Norvel conversions.

The best prop ever made, I think, is the Cox series in grey plastic. I forget the details but a direct, same day comparison on my dieselized Norvel .074 showed the 8 X 4 Cox prop to perform best on the tach and best in the air. Second best was a black Tornado and the worst was an APC in the same size.

The .061 does real well on a 7 X 4 black Tornado (by Grish). But it really shines with a Cox 7 X 3.5. And, wouldn't you know it, on glow, the Cox 6 X 3 is superior to all the others. Even a black, rubber ducky 6 X 3 was as good as the stiffer grey. Crazy, them black props. They shouldn't work as well as they do but they do.

I've run my modified .061 on an 8 X 4 Cox grey and it slugged along, strongly and smoothly at 10K and throttled down to 3K. Oh man, what a sound. We need an icon for goose bumps. With LOTS of low speed thrust, it's slated for a Texaco Moth I hope to build this winter. I have a video of it for anyone interested.

Also, I've run my new .074 on a 10 X 4 Tornado and it did 7K very smoothly and with excellent throttling.
