Default RE: Saito 1.80 Carb cleaning

[b]JCT:

The LS needle can be screwed out of the barrel after taking the throttle lever off, but it's needless. There are no internal ports in it, nothing to get dirty. Leave it alone.

On the other end there are two nuts near the body of the carb. See first picture. The smaller nut is a little difficult to see. The larger nut holds the fuel jet. The smaller is normally screwed up against the larger, locking the needle tee in place and also holding the clicker spring. Loosen it, leaving the larger locked down. Then with a pair of pliers grab the needle carrier on the plain part at the fuel nipple and unscrew it.

This, and taking the barrel out of the body, is as far as you need to take it down for complete access to the entire carb and all the ports.

You might want to call Horizon Hobbies - there is an upgrade kit for the carb that replaces all the fuel handling parts except the LS needle. Seond picture is the kit for the FA-120, the FA-180 kit is similar.

There are really only two things to give a problem with the carb, other than trash. The fuel jet has to be oriented properly, and the o-ring for the needle seal has to be undamaged.

The orientation of the fuel jet is easily checked. See the jet in picture #3. Note the flat. There is another on the opposite side. The next picture shows the spray slit, this is to be directly toward the engine side of the carb. When it is the flats are in line with the air flow as shown in the next picture.

The needle o-ring is shown in the last picture. It's inside the end, you can just see it. A new o-ring comes in the carb gasket kit, but for just a little more you get the complete upgrade kit with the new seal already installed.

Any more questions? Just ask.

Hope this helps anyway.

Bill.
