Whether an ARF is better than a KIT or not is a matter of opinion and depends on the ARF, the KIT and the builder and still remains a matter of opinion. ARF's of the same plane are usually less expensive, that is true but IMO are typically of lesser quality if the KIT is properly assembled. Anyone can BUY an ARF but it takes a MODELER to properly assemble a kit.

All that said, I hope you enjoy your new plane. Keep us posted on your flying and your parents response to the purchase.

You should also not be ashamed to walk around with your plane. Lots of those people would probably wish it was theirs.
