Much like electric racing, trucks (not the monster variety) often have superior lap times to their buggy counterparts. This is due in large part to the larger contact patch of the tires, the wider stance, extra suspension travle, and while still maintaining a similar center of gravity.
The first truggies, which were scratch built one off buggies, were managing to keep up or beat buggy lap times. Wait until all of the first generation production truggies are released. Buggies will again be made obsolete by their truck counterparts.
Side note: The same thing can be seen with 1:1 off road racing, typically the trophy trucks finish in front of the class 1 buggies.
