Ok, I fly nothing but Airtronics. Yes, the wiring on the servos are different. You can use any brand of servos with any brand of receiver just as long as you get the wiring correct on the servos. Please see the attached diagram for wiring on each type of radio.

As far as the older Airtronics. There should be no reason why it shouldn't work. I've got 3 of the older Airtronics radios and they work great.
