RE: Cen MT2- NT-16 to 18 conversion results
I think I heat cycled it (may sound odd, but I am still figuring all this out). I did not use the sock method, but I did make sure my temps got up around 190 to 200 degrees and putted around in circles with thick smoke and a little xtra fuel coming out the exhaust. After each run, I made sure the piston was at BDC or close to it and waited till the motor reached room temp to refill. I did this for 5 tanks. I am getting a little better at this, but still leaning a lot. This conversion is a night and day difference in the motor. Although, to be fair, it was not running that great before the conversion. But it definetly has more power and speed than the stock motor. I ran 4 tanks through it today and am just getting it close to where I want it. It accelerates smooth, idles great but sputters just a little when it hits 2nd. My temps when the tank runs empty are around 256. When this thing hits 2nd gear, I have no doubts that I am NOT in control. On a WOT acceleration on pavement, it is a little hard to control. The backend fishtails a little, but that may be the tires I have on it. I am running a set of MOAB buggy tires and I think they are not the best for pavement.
This is a great conversion. I am ordering parts for my MT2 and will definitely be upgrading it also. I might even buy a used motor off Ebay to upgrade because the MT2 is running so good as it is. I have seen a couple used NT-16 go for around $30 shipped.
I like this conversion and must say a thank you to everyone on this forum that walked me through it. Definitely worth the $35 in parts.
