RE: Showtime gas engine
Yes -
FWIW -if you want to use other pipes and headers - there should be no problem as long as you get the tuned length correct.
There are all kinds of devices on the market . CF pipes are great also -I have one -but price is more.
That setup is $83 bucks- aprox-- look at prices for the in cowl stuff -then remember this - any of those reduce power - so you would be adding money to reduce power.
Do this -pull up a Thrust/HP chart on your puter -
now plug in 18x8-prop- at 10,000 rpm--and--8000 rpm --look at HP differences.
try some other numbers too
The example I gave shows a HP drop of 4.5 to 2.3. pn the chart I grabbed
Are these charts accurate?
not really -too many variables but the slope of the power change is pretty close.
Last weekend, I had a flier ask me about tuned pipes .
He said he was told that pipes just let the engine run faster -the longer the pipe -the faster it ran-
Never heard THAT one before--
The fact is ,tuned exhausts raise the torque of the engine -to a new higher torque figure -typically(not necessarily) at a higher rpm.
The proof? run your prop with a open exhaust setup.
Now add muffler - read rpm- lower or higher?
switch to properly setup broad band muffled pipe -rpm should now be higher than open exhaust.
So -obviously -if the same prop increased in rpm - more torque was required.
