Default RE: Drifting newbie

I get my black ABS pipe from McMaster.com and then cut and notch it on the lathe at the office. I notch it so the edge of the rim does not stick out. Then I attach them to the rims using a very light amount of RTV (Silicone Sealant). I do this because silicone absorbs vibration and the joint is less likely to break. Haven't had a tire come loose to this day and I've been drifting for about 6 years now. Once the tire is worn down however I can carefully press the rim out of the worn out tire and reuse the rim!

I think I'm going to try buying some blank ABS stock and make some that are slightly thicker and fit the rims perfectly within a +/- .001 tolerance. Solid stock however is expensive. About $50 - $70 for a 4' length.

On another note in the SSG Drifter 4 video did anybody see the white FC drifting indoors with the red car on the office carpet? I'd like to try that, it looks very smooth. I think if I chamfer of roll the edges of the tire and only use it on carpet it would really work well. The only problem then is cost of the carpet. I have the space in my basement so, 15' X 20' track = 300sq/ft of carpet needed at about $1.47 per sq/ft = $441.00 just for the track then some 1" PVC and a bunch of joints to make track boundaries. Comes out being a >$500.00 test... I've been wrestling with this for a while and I Just realized I should try the carpet in my office.... DUH I need to go charge batteries now and try it out!!!
