The short circuit current may be that many mA's, but the allowed logic level sink and source output currents are only 2mA. For more details, just review the data sheets to the decoder IC used in your Hitec Rx (e.g., CD4015 or CD4017).
Where does one get such data sheets?
mr.rc-cam might have a better source but google does just fine for me...
