Your method sounds good, and I will give it a try. In terms of isolating the heat, I am thinking to try some heat-shirnk tubing that I have available, but if that doesn't work, I also have some left over high-temp silicon sheets that I can use. Hopefully this is going to hold up so I can use this header-muffler combo - I really like the look.
