SOMEONE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME. LUKE I know you most likely can. Look at the photo of the Birdcage corsair and someone tell me what the odd looking thing is on the right side of the fusellage in line with the trailing edge of the wing to the stablizer. Looks almost like a buldge going down the side, but im not sure what it is for. I will be soon starting a F4u-1 birdcage Royal corsair and im getting some photos together for a scale look. But I have never seen this on any corsair before?

ALAN here`s some pics for You .I think you`ve got a nice subject to model there.I`ll give you a bit of info incase you don`t already know a bit about this Corsair or the pilot. If you know this stuffIt`ll be in the thread for someone else.
PILOT MAJ.Gregory J Weissenberger ,belting-up in BuNo 02288..He became Commander of VMF-213,they were known to share, their planes, back, and forth, with VMF-124 .The MAJ.became an ACE; July 18th 1944 with 5 kills for a career total..It`s reported the celebratin included a birthday cake that afternoon THE majority of the pics I`m putting up are of "his plane ,but I also included a couple showing the MUCK on The fuse theory.I won`t stick my neck out, and say this is the case with your pic, because it`s still possible that its ,the color blend..I`m thinking it just might be the paint job, because the star is not that dirty in my photo either but it`s something you can resarch more about..So there`s some good leads you can chase ..Is this, any help to you ????DAVE B.
