Default RE: Break-In?

ORIGINAL: grk65

Thanks for the picture and advice. I had heard of this method before, but have never seen it. Some other people say they clean the motor out with motor spray after they break it in and then oil the bushing. What about when the instructions says "Do not break in". Also why not walk away?
When the instructions say "do not break in", most likely the brushes are preshaped to fit the commutor, breaking in these would cause unnecessary wear.

Don't walk away, as in: stay close and check regulary, depending on how hard the brushes are, ánd how quickly they soften up in water, the process may speed up all of a sudden, wearing away your brushes at a high rate, which is not the idea of breaking in...

Most dirt from the brushed is in the water, but it can never hurt to clean afterwards with motor cleaner.
I never do this, and my 700 motors run for at least three seasons .

Regards, Jan.
