Mode 2 is Throttle, Rudder on the left stick, Elevator, Aileron on the right stick.
As Dydx said mode 1 is more prevalent than mode 2 still but is probably more of a lay over from when mode 1 was the standard option in Oz. As more younger guys come through mode 2 is getting more popular as it is more like the real thing, especially Airbus products, fighters, and games consoles.
I have only really seriously been flying for the last couple of years & mode 1 felt comfortable so I went that way. Most clubs should have instructors that can teach either mode.
