I did mine the same way. Even tried cutting tiny wedges out of the overlapping film. The seam stills shows. Best you can do as far as I know is to try to keep the overlap as small as possible.
One thing you might try after you cover the tip is to go over the seam with some 1/8" or 1/16" striping tape. Might be more of a pain than it's worth.

Have you bought or started on your GP Ultimate 40 ? I thought you mentioned starting on or planning to buy one in another thread. I have finished the tail feathers and bottom wing on mine and I'm working on the fuse now. This one is a little tougher than the SSE was.
