Default RE: Genesis pinions - M12 thread?

u still on plastic spurs Rolland?

the ofna pinions are loads better than the cen alloy or steel ones, but the steel is still kinda flowing both back into the grooves and toward the tip of the teeth, thinning them down and slowly shortening the teeth. hope that makes sense, cam batts are on charge...

im still running it on the beach, so of course the sand isnt helping, but to be honest, it doesnt look like the sand is wearing them that much, not like the others at least, its more the torque from the motor, i feel. this could be as good as im gonna get it, but the spurs still look like new, but with a little silver showing on the teeth now.

sure, pinions do and should wear quicker, but heres the crunch - set of ofna pinions - £8, 2 speed ofna clutch bell - £15, steel bearings to suit - £4 plus postage... now the pinions hold the bearings in the bell, the pinions refuse to budge off the bell after use, even with heat etc, so when i kill a set of pinions, it costs too much to replace it all. in comparison, the genesis spurs are £8 each here, so it would actually be cheaper to replace them instead!

as for the gap between the ofna pinions - it doesnt seem to matter much at all - no they are not perfectly aligned, but its not even 1mm out, so its not a case of being short on load bearing area on the gears thats causing extra wear.

what we really need is a cover for the spurs and pinions and some lubrication on them, that will help no end i am sure. has anyone seen a cover from another manufacturer that may work? just a thought...
