Default RE: Four-Star 120 build getting started.

Hi C_Heath - Sorry if you didn't get my PM back to you yesterday. I went into my Sent box though, and am just going to copy out your question and my answer, it'll be quicker that way and might help someone else as well, you just never know.

QUESTION from C_Heath

Did you leave the final headrest former out? Based on your pictures it looks like it. I want to move mine back but I wanted to ask you first if you just left the forwardmost former out.

Moving that cockpit back makes it look racey. I know its a four star but it dosent take much for it to look like a pylon racer. Just gotta bash it a little bit.

Let me know if ya can.

MY ATTEMPT at an Answer

Hi Chris - I used all of the turtle deck formers as well as the head rest former. It took some doing, but I got them all cut down a little so they kept the stringers in-line. I also love using the lite ply to cover this area. I think it's only about 1/32" thick, it's tough, and yet you can roll into a cone it's so plyable. I use some heavy paper or light cardboard to make the template, and then transfer it on to a sheet of the ply, you can even use scissors to but the ply instead of screwing around with your blade. The reason I did this was to get away from the 'faceted' look you'll get if you cover the turtle deck stringers like they show. I think it also gives the rear area of the plane a lot of added strength.

Your right about this being an easy plane to bash and make it look better. A lot of the guys I've seen have reversed the canopy and made it a much more streamlined look rather then the bubble canopy.

Additional bashing stuff below

Another thing that I've heard about trying, but never done it myself is to tint the canopy with Ritz Dye. I've seen a few done this way, and as long as your aren't going to put a pilot in the cockpit it looks pretty cool. One thing I did on my 4*60 was to use a Harry Potter figure I found, put him on a dowel down through the fuselage, and put a servo arm on the dowl and hooked it up to the rudder servol so when you turned the plane, Harry would turn to the left and right.........
