Default RE: Glow Engine

ORIGINAL: sami2002

This is a beginner question:

I know that the glow plug is heated initially to start the engine but once it has started running and it is wormed up then there is no need to keep the glow plug powered.

so why is it that people say if your engine keeps turning off after few min running that means that the glow plug needs replacement?

I appreciate any answer.

The engine shutting down dosent nesseraily mean the plug is blown.. there are many factors that ccan cause this.. you will know if the plug is blown if
A: you take it out and put it on the ignitor and it dosent glow (provided you have charged the ignitor)
B: When you take the glow plug off the engine dies ( this could also mean the plug is too cool for the application )

Just persist with it, i know at the early stages its confusing but if your persistent things will fall into place soon enough ! Just make sure you get your info from reliable scources, loads of wives tales in this hobby... lol Enjoy !
