9C is a fine radio, but you do get for what you pay for extra on the 9Z like synthesized module, ball bearing stick gimbals, smooth side sliders, 13 point throttle curve, unlimited programmability on all sticks and switches with the exception of the trainer/th-cut switch, and many more. But I would have to say the 9C is all out the best radio in the $450~$500 range.
