Default Help with Build problem

I am building an old kit I bought off of e-bay. It's a Wolff Pak Thrush. I have one that is already built that I'm flying now, but it's wearing out. So, I started building the kit I've had laying around for a bit. Here's the issue. After getting the fuse build I noticed that the bulkhead that supports the landing gear is shorter than the one in the plane I'm flying, and after looking at the pics in the manual (no plans) I can see that it's supposed to stick up a bit. I can fashion an extention by laminating 2 1/8th pieces of ply wood around 2 5/32 pieces that create a pocket for the landing gear. Do you think this is the best method? Is it too little a problem to worry about? My concern is that there is a hole for the wing dowel that will also be located too low if I leave it as is. Here are some pics.
