I think you will find your old Magnum 40 will be a good runner. I have had trouble with some of my engines and almost 95% of the time it has been a carb issue. If you have any trouble the people at Global will be glad to help you. I have engines from all of the major manufactures and have had trouble with them all on and off, yes even OS. Don't give up on an engine if it gives you trouble. There is always an answer to its problem.
You will have a longer life engine if you run it on the richer side. I find that guy's that seem to have the most trouble with their engines don't have the patients to deal with it. They give up to early. Magnum engines are no better or worse then the other out there. I find them to be a good reliable engine at a very good price. And if you ever get into 4 strokes you'll find the Magnum line of engine and good a any OS. I know I have both and the Magnums are just as reliable and strong as the OS engines
