RE: Parkflyers Edge 540T
So far, the conversion to a geared motor, using the awlhobbies.com motor has gone well (the Art-Tech 3100KV motor).
I've had four flights, one of them under windy conditions, and it flew very well. Plenty of power now and I can make it hover, although it is still difficult to keep it going for more than 4 or 5 seconds, but I'll get there as I learn to control it better. Harriers are a snap and I can bring it down very slowly for neat-looking landings.
I have been using the 12 X 3.8 props which would give the most thrust, but they exceed the amperage limits on the motor (16 amps vs. 13 amp limit), so was not going full throtle with the 12 X 3.8 so I wouldn't burn the motor up.
Yesterday, I received the 11 X 4.7 props and I can use them full throtle and only loose about 3 ounces of thrust which is not bad at all. The Edge did great yesterday using this prop, so I'm not all set with the motor conversion.
The motor is available from awlhobbies.com and comes complete with the geared mounting already assembled. I purchased mine on sale for $25. The regular price is $29.95.
I fly very often, so I will soon be able to determine how long this low-priced motor lasts.
Now..... the only thing left to do is purchase a good computer radio so I can better control the Edge with HI/LO rates, exponential adjustments, etc. I've been a good boy this year, so maybe..... just maybe..... Santa will be good to me!!
