RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Despite the production problems with my Can Do .46, I maidened her successfully today, off a snowy road, winds gusting to 20 mph, 90 degree cross-wind to the road. Two left clicks on the ailerons and she was trimmed, so I must've done something right in building her. The O.S. 61 was hard to start (15 degree weather) and flamed out at 6 minutes the first flight. The Can Do floats marvelously, I discovered, and plopped down in deep, soft snow. The pressure line had a break at the Pitts muffler, which has a very sharp brass nipple. I may have been rough on it with gloved hands.
I put in an O.S. A3 (hot plug) in the .61 and had an excellent second flight, 12 minutes, making the Can Do KEs, hovers, and inverted spins, EASY! You guys were right. This plane is fun! Easy to fly. I harriered the last landing and put her down in 10 inches of soft snow, tail first, just for fun.
I love the rudder and elevator command. I used full rates starting the second flight, but remember I'm used to the Twist, equally acrobatic and quicker.
I'm sure this bird will teach me a few things about what she can do, but I'm anxious to teach HER what she can do.
Thanks, all, for your help and encouragement. She may be uglier that she needs to be, but she flies marvelously. I guess I can burn the boxes she came in now, huh?
