RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Thanks, Raideron, I'm always looking for a bird that will teach me something.
See pix of the Can Do. I decided to wait until I liked the bird before I inverted the engine and put on the cowling. I detest the long name, though, and when the decals go on, I'll edit the U-CAN-DO 3D .46 to Can Do--besides, I enjoy the imperative.
For those still thinking about buying a .46, see the way the pushrod is bent, two 90 degree turns for the right elevator. The OTHER side is as the book recommends. Yes, there may be more give in the right side because of those bends, but I haven't seen any degrading. I tried several "Walls" to test it. Bird went straight up. If the right elevator had bent, you'd get a screwing vertical, hm? I took a 24" extension, plugged it into one servo, then, having put the other servo wire through the fuse, I soldered it onto the extension.
Doing things that way saves you a servo reverser AND buying a "Y-connector." But that's me, cheap. The servos are Futaba S3004's, all of them, another saving. But I put Du-Bro arms on them, except for the throttle servo, a Tower TS-53, with a common arm. I WILL watch the servos' responses and operation because they are, SLIGHTLY, overloaded. The RECOMMENDED servos are 50 oz/inch. The S3004 are 44 oz/inch. I called a GP technician on the subject, by the way, and he said they OUGHT to work okay. So you CAN save the money and still have the Can Do 46 work fine.
This morning I burned the boxes. So my Can Do is my hangar to stay. It's the first bird I'll fly today--if the winds come down from 30 mph gusts.
Raid, do you like that yellow canopy?
The snow in the pix will give you an idea of what we're flying in. We have 37 inches of snow this month and 73 inches since Nov 16, when it started falling.
Skiis work! Fly well.
