The unecessary complexity with alum tube and FG sockets actually adds weight. A well design one piece wing is lighter than the best designed 2-piece.
True, but the fuselage for the 2-piece is lighter and stronger since it is full depth at the wing instead of having the wing cut through it. A one piece wing, particularly on a mid-wing, has to have plywood doublers and triplers in that area of the fuselage and they still have a tendancy to break at the front or back of the wing. And not having to join the wings makes assembly easier for the non-builder.
