RE: Ultra R/C Giles 202 UL 29%
Here are the pics of my Carbon Fiber landing gear MOD. I bought a set of gear from Troy Built, Graph Tech 112 for Aeroworks Edge $55. These were pretty much the same dimensions as the stock setup, 8!QUOT! wide at Fuse and 7!QUOT! high to axle.
Pic 1 shows the stock fuse
Pic 2 shows the various pieces I added to give the bottom plate being added the best tie into the existing structural framework.

Pic 6 shows plan ready to go.
I flew the plan today on asphalt with no problems, but never had any hard landings. I think the MOD should hold up just fine. I will take it back out to the new grass field that broke the original gear latter this week and see how it holds up. Theres not much down there to beef up for this MOD, but I think mine will hold well.
If I do hit to hard, hopefully the nylon bolts will sheer, or the bottom plate I added will just rip off with minimal damage to the fuselage.
The plane started at 10 lbs 4 oz, and as you can see after the MOD it weighed in at 10 lbs 13 oz. Not to bad really. Only added 8 oz. Well worth it in my book. That stock setup is for the birds.
Anyway, flew two tanks and the plane is a real winner. Fly's like on rails. Axial rolls. Almost hands off inverted. Crisp snaps with perfect lockups. Still breaking the motor in so didn't do any real slow stuff that required power because she is still running to rich and didn't want to have to dead stick it in.
