If I'm not mistaken the reason is, the voltages of 4AA alkaline batteries is 6volts and 4AA rechargeable is 4.8volts the Venom fails low voltage cut off is set at 4.2 volts, so your really close to the safety cut off voltage, by using a 5 cells rechargeable hump pack you go back up to 6 volts. I've bean using a 5cells hump pack for a while now a never had a problem.

IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE DESIGNS OF THE BATTERY THE FAIL SAFE IS SET TO A CERTAIN TWEEK TO BE ABLE TO SENSE THE LOW VOLTAGE OF A BATTERY BUT NIMH FOR SOME REASON IS DIFFERENT IT MAY WORK IT MAY NOT I HAD FOUND A READ UP ON IT SHOULD HAVE SAVED IT .BUT THAT IS MY OPPINION THE SPRING TO THROTTLE THING WAS A TEST IT ALSO MAY NOT WORK AT ALL TIMES IT WORKED FOR ME A COUPLE TIME BUT IT DEPENS WHEN THE SIGNAL IS LOST IF ITS TO FAR FORWARD THE SERVOE ARM IS TO TIGHT TO PULL BACK BUT I FOUND THAT THE STEERING KINDS OF GOES FUNNY WHEN SIGNAL IS WEEK.

NIMH ARE THE BEST ,THERE THE STRONGEST AND THEY LAST THE LONGEST ,the only thing is you cant charge them in the transmitter or reciever battery pack,you need an automatic charger that can charge either nicd and nimh both. OH AND O FORGOT TO MENTION ONE DRAW BACK ,THE FAIL SAFE ARE NOT DESIGNED FOR USE WITH NIMH,THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT.SPRING TO THE THROTTLE ARM FIXES THAT FOR ME.

ok im a newbie to the rc car world and i was wondering if it is ok to use rechargeable batteries in the reciever and transmitter ( e.g NI-MH).
As it says in the instructions for the radio to use alkaline batteries.

Seems a bit strange why it wouldnt work with NI-Mh batteries though.

failsafe dont work with NI-MHs?
or they do work but only sometimes?
its best to get a failsafe and a throttle return spring?
just get a throttle return spring?
use a hump pack and a failsafe?
