The fail safe is definitely going to work with Ni-MH or Ni-cad if you have a 5 cell rechargeable pack (6v Ni-MH or Ni-cad) but you could have problem with a 4cell rechargeable set up (4.8v Ni-MH or Ni-cad)since the cut off voltage is close to the 4.8v pack.
